Thinking about straightening your teeth with clear aligners? Here’s a step-by-step look at how treatment works at our clinic and what to expect along the way.
How Clear Aligners Work
Clear aligners are a series of custom-made, nearly invisible trays that gently move your teeth into place, one set at a time. Because they’re removable, most people get on with everyday life without anyone noticing. We offer two systems — Invisalign and Spark Aligners — and we’ll help you choose the right fit.

The Clear Aligner Process, Step by Step
- Records and assessment – we check whether aligners are right for you, then take photos and a digital 3D scan — no messy impressions.
- Your treatment plan – your scan maps out how your teeth will move, and we’ll show you a preview of the final result before you commit.
- Wearing your aligners – you swap to a new set every week or two and pop in for the odd review. Wherever possible, we straighten your natural teeth without extractions.
- Retainers – once you’re straight, a retainer keeps your new smile in place.
How Long Do Clear Aligners Take?
Most people finish in 6 to 18 months — simpler cases sooner, complex ones longer. The key is wear time: aligners need to be in for 20 – 22 hours a day, only coming out to eat and brush. The more consistently you wear them, the faster things go.
What Do Clear Aligners Cost?
Cost depends on your individual case — how much movement is needed and whether we treat one arch or both — rather than a set package. As a guide, our treatment ranges from $7,800 to $9,500, confirmed after your consultation. You can see all our current fees on our Price Guide.
Many private health funds offer a partial rebate on orthodontics, so it’s worth checking your policy. We claim eligible rebates on the spot through HICAPS, and offer Humm payment plans to spread the cost.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do clear aligners hurt? You may feel mild pressure for a day or two with each new set — a sign they’re working. It settles quickly.
Clear aligners or braces — which is right for me? Both straighten teeth well. Aligners are clear, comfortable and removable; braces stay fixed. We’ll advise what suits your teeth and lifestyle.
Do I need a retainer afterwards? Yes — a retainer holds your results in place once treatment finishes.
